What you will be able to do

Skills you add to your Herizon profile when you finish: Product Management, Prioritization, Roadmapping.

  • Understand user problems well enough to solve them
  • Prioritize ruthlessly (pick the few things that matter most) when everything seems important
  • Build roadmaps that show strategy, not just features
  • Write user stories engineers can work from
  • Measure whether your product is working
  • Find and test ideas before you spend time building them
  • Manage stakeholders who all want different things
  • Plan and carry out product launches
  • Break into PM from another field

Who it is for

People who want to move into product management, or who have just started in the role. That includes developers who want more say over what gets built, and designers who want to own strategy. It includes business analysts and project managers looking for a more strategic role, founders who need PM skills, and career changers trying out the field. You don't need a technical background or an MBA.

The situation you work through

Aino, the product manager at Nordic Mug, takes a candle subscription from eight customer interviews to launch in one quarter, scoring the same six candidate features along the way.

Your practice task

Build a one-page prioritized roadmap for a product you know, such as an app you use or a club website. List six candidate features with who asked for each, score every one with RICE (reach, impact, confidence, effort) in a spreadsheet, and rank them. Set a capacity in person-months, then lay out Now, Next, and Later, with a theme and one measurable success metric for each of Now and Next. Submit the page as a PDF or share link.
