Aino is a made-up junior developer in Tampere. She has joined a Finnish team that ships a small web app, a room booking tool with a Python backend and a Postgres database. Her lead gives her four tasks for the first month. Each one is a page group in this course.
It takes about 28 min of reading, plus exercises, a short quiz and a practice task. It teaches Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform. Pass the short quiz at the end to get a certificate.
What you will be able to do
- A Dockerfile and a compose.yaml for a small app and its database
- A GitHub Actions workflow that tests and builds on every pull request
- A Deployment running on a local Kubernetes cluster
- A Terraform plan for a container, with its state kept out of Git
- A clear view of what DevOps ads in Finland ask for
Who it is for
Time per page: 15 to 30 minutes Whole course: 4 to 5 hours (10 pages, at your own speed) This is for you if you are: - A developer, student or IT person who wants to move toward DevOps or platform work - A junior asked to containerise an app, add CI or read a Terraform plan - Changing career and building a project to show You need a laptop, Docker Desktop or another way to run Docker, a GitHub account and a small web app. Basic terminal use and Git help. You do not need a cloud account. ---
The situation you work through
Aino, a made-up junior developer in Tampere, joins a Finnish team that ships a small booking web app: in her first month she containerises it with a Dockerfile and a compose.yaml, adds a CI workflow, runs a Deployment of three replicas on a local Kubernetes cluster and makes a safe Terraform change by sharing the plan for review.
Your practice task
Containerise a small web app with a Dockerfile and a compose.yaml, add a GitHub Actions workflow that tests and builds on every pull request, apply a Deployment on a local Kubernetes cluster and run terraform plan for a container with the state kept out of Git. Submit your repository link, one green CI run and a fixed red one, the output of kubectl get pods with the Service type you chose, and your plan output with three sentences on what Terraform and OpenTofu are, what went wrong and your next step.
